Bluecoat American Dry Gin, Pennsylvania, £35/70cl, ocado.com

Laying claim to be Pennsylvania’s first post-Prohibition distillery, Philadelphia Distilling named its flagship product after the Bluecoats, soldiers who took part in the American Revolutionary War. This dry gin comes in an eye-catching jewel-blue bottle and delivers plenty of bold, fresh flavour, including soft, earthy juniper, spicy coriander and zippy citrus notes. Super smooth, it would make a killer martini.

Rickey Gin by New Columbia Distillers, Washington, £33.95/50cl, Master of Malt

This Washington D.C-made gin is inspired by the flavours of a gin rickey cocktail (a highball drink made with gin, lime juice and sparkling water) and the end result is a citrussy corker. Light and clean with an oily, smooth mouthfeel, expect masses of creamy lemon curd and zesty lemon sherbert flavours.

FEW American Gin, Illinois, £44.45/70cl The Whisky Exchange

This unusual gin from Evanston in Illinois is made with white whisky (unaged bourbon), with lemon, vanilla, lush fruitiness and warming grain notes from the base spirit. The juniper is much more subtle and doesn’t taste like a typical gin, we were reminded more of a blanco tequila or pisco. An adventurous choice for intrepid gin drinkers.

Aviation American Gin, Oregon, £36/70cl, Waitrose

This craft gin from Portland, Oregon is now a multi-million dollar brand and we can see why. Featuring botanicals of cardamom, coriander, lavender, anise, juniper, orange peel and sarsaparilla, it’s a lovely, balanced gin with cardamom spice, sweet floral notes and citrus peel shining through.
